From chia oil drizzles to chew trainers, here’s everything that reset my gut, skin, nervous system, and mood in 7 days at the world’s most exclusive detox clinic.
First petty comment Ive seen on substack. I thought we were here to have more thoughtful and mature conversations? Don't turn this into every other social media platform. If you're really professional, you'd think your approach here would be much more supportive... Especially considering your "newsletter" title. Build up? This was a troll thread. Congratulations.
Why so negative? Many of these points sound more than reasonable. Breakfast as biggest meal of the day, no snacking, no water 30min before/after meal, for example, whats wrong with these?
Most of these are ancient practices or modern technologies that support the body’s natural rhythms and detox pathways.. As someone who manages a sensitive gut balance for my health, I would never go to a western med trained nutritionist—because they do not understand and/or would slap me with an incorrect and pathologizing label as you did here. Unhelpful.
Thanks for pointing out my typo as a way to own me. It was a genuine question but it’s clear you’re here to troll people trying to do good things for themselves. Do you have an Instagram page dedicated to owning MAHA and discrediting everything there isn’t a study for or is that another question you can’t answer?
hi Mindee - dietitians tend to be very aware of lists of food rules like the ones in the newsletter which can often lead people to disordered practices around food, health and a negative relationship with their food and their body. Glad you had a fun time at your resort (retreat).
Exactly! They don’t teach you to do these everyday - this is what we did during the cleanse & there were many great takeaways. And I think it’s fascinating. I always love learning and taking things that are tangible & make sense for my body!
Therapist here. Humans must give themselves grace, especially when trying to exchange unhealthy habits for healthy ones. Any healthy daily habit, whether it’s food, hygiene, exercise, home keeping, etc., can be taken to extremes and become as or more unhealthy than the one it replaced. Adopting a more ordered life is laudable but we must give ourselves permission to fail if/when we don’t drink water at the right time or miss the taste of our favorite wine or yogurt.
Yes - if you’re under a therapist’s care check with them before adopting a very different, strict life change . This regiment could become an unhealthy one.
thank you for these amazing tips! I think there might be an error — liver is right side not left: “Every evening, we’d place a hot water bottle on the upper left side of our abdomen—right over the liver.”
Very useful list of tips for a healthy gut. What’s surprising to me is that every bit of this listicle forms the core of Ayurveda or most of the ancient practises in medicine! The wisdom of the body and nature has been around long before we started looking for it.
Be good to read a check in update in 6 weeks, if you’ve kept everything up, dropped some, experiment with which of the changes worked as changing alot at once it’s hard to know exactly what has helped . Following with interest :)
Did you know gut bacteria can produce neurotransmitters like serotonin and GABA? At Mayrlife, they tested mine—after one week, microbial diversity improved, linked to better mood, energy, and even decision-making.
To everyone reading this, please read with objectivity. This is one person‘s experience and is anecdotal. Before you take these 30 things as fact do additional research.
There is no science to support that eating raw vegetables after 1 PM causes you to be bloated. There is no science to support enzymes magically stop working at noon. There’s no science to suggest eating fruit in the morning is better for you than the afternoon. If the author has citation to share to credible scientific studies, then they should add those. Without those studies, this is just a random person on the internet’s opinion/experience.
Water interferes with the digestive process and breaking down food. And it’s easier to digest food at night that’s already half digested/broken down (like soup!)
Thank you for sharing! I do some but not all of these and the distinctions you provide are interesting. Question- how do you get your protein? Women and especially post menopausal women need protein to build and maintain muscle mass for a host is reasons. The part about no snacking or eating after 5:30. As someone with hypoglycemia which is controlled with small more frequent meals that’s never been an option for me and I’ve seen functional med and ND’s. Again thank you ! Looking for chia oil now
This is so inspiring! Which program did you register for? They offer quite a few I'd be interested in making this one of my vacations. Thank you so much for all the information.
When you say, dandelion tea, was it the leaves, roots or both? They supposedly both do different things: I’ve read the root detox is your liver and the leaves help to detox your blood. Just curious what part of the plant was made into a T?
Better title: ‘30 Food Rules to Provoke Orthorexia’…or maybe ‘30 Rules that are likely to Provoke a Disordered Relationship with Food’

I thought the same :)

On her sheet in the photo it says no water 15 min before and no water 60 min after.

it's possible to have eating disorders/disordered eating in non-Western countries as well.
Wow. If any culture has an eating problem, the standard American diet would be at the top of the list
So if someone practices Ayurveda you would label them with “distorted eating”?
hi Mindee - have not mentioned Ayurveda and did not write "distorted" eating.

Wow, tough crowd here...
People, these are guidelines...
AS IF anyone can follow such hard and fast rules...
if able, many would be healthier than who we see waking the streets every day...
These are the same darn rules most of us were taught by our elders:
-chew your food
-eat your food, drinking fluids will make you feel sick
- a walk after dinner
-light stretching
-bedtime routine...
There is NOT one 'new' thing here other than common sense!!!
Cheers!

I was confused by that as well.
Same question. Most of the liver is on the right.
Yes could you clarify where to place this? I'd love to try it.
This retired nurse came here to mention the same.

Which digestive bitters do you suggest?
Two shakes of Angostura bitters in a Manhattan, nightly
second this question!

I am confused between:
— no water during meals,
vs.
— soup for dinner.
Water interferes with the digestive process and breaking down food. And it’s easier to digest food at night that’s already half digested/broken down (like soup!)
Thanks for sharing theses tips and saving us some money in the process!
Hi! Interesting - I’m on a similar and much more exhaustive (functional integrative medicine) protocol to heal my gut and liver. Couple of questions:
- what time are you consuming dandelion tea, I take roasted dandelion root tea mid afternoon
- how are you ensuring your protein intake?
- I would also recommend adding castor oil pack to apply over your liver/stomach before sleeping, did you all incorporate that as well?
- TIL about chia oil, I’m currently consuming flaxseed oil with all my protein shakes, it’s a game changer!
My protein powders are hydrolysed, meaning pre digested. So my gut doesn’t have to do a lot of work.
This is gold, thank you for sharing ✨🫶🏼

Soaked and blended chia? We need the details
